5th Service - ouch!

Just had a call from the independent we use for all our other cars as he's doing the 62.5K service for me.

It needs new spark plugs, new oil filter and front and rear brake pads. This is going to be quite a bill!

Just be content that you're not going to your local Mazda stealership. That would require a second mortgage.........and just think how fast it will be with all those new bits!

I've just booked in for my 24 month service. 'Service from only £120.00' they advertise but because the 24 month service involves replacement of the brake fluid it's £190.00.

Garage hourly rates are just horrendous, always have been and I guess always will as long as we need regular servicing. Thank goodness the intervals are getting further apart, and you can do an interim oil change in-between if you want.

    Hi there

Just a bit off topic. I just had my mx 3rd year service and MOT by Mazda for £218 with 10% off. Also had them check all the bushes that were twisted after having it lowered and I'm glad to say all is ok.

    Regards

I've just been shopping around and got prices from 3 dealers. Two quoted within £3 of each other at around £162 for the second service and the sister dealership to where I bought the car quoted £190.

I may be having a few words as I book it in to see if I can get a price match!!

    Cheers.

    Hi ToniH

Are you in the MX owners club? Most Mazda dealers will give you a 10% discount on servicing and parts! Just show them your owners card and away you go.

    Worth a try!

Ouch is right. Just picked it up from the garage. I was forewarned when they rang to ask if I REALLY wanted them to use genuine Mazda parts!

Before VAT the bill was £376 of which £60 was the service charge and £316 was parts and consumables. They didn't charge me additional labour for fitting them.

As Paul said - those bloody brake parts should be gold plated for that price!

    Hi DS,

Curiosity has got the better of me, how much labour time did they put against changing the pads? I had the back ones of when I painted the calipers and realisticaly was no more than 15 mins a side to strip and put back and that was with DIY gear i.e trolley jack and wheel brace.... no power tools! The fronts shouldn't take much longer, in fact might be quicker as there is no handbrake involvement..

Short answer is none. £60 is the standard service labour charge so I would have paid that whether or not the brakes were done. Nearly all the bill was brake parts.

Ah right, I see that in your post now, bit of a stinger nonetheless! Makes you wonder if they roll some labour charges into the part costs, it would be interesting to price the parts only from the parts counter.
