Shock Absorber Gaiters

Had some new tyres fitted to my 2.0 litre Sport last week and noticed the rubber gaiters to the front Bilstein shock absorbers were split, are replacements readily available?

If you can get your fingers in you can repair them with superglue about 10mm at a time.  I replaced the CV joint boots on my 205 GTI with universal glue on boots saving halfshaft removal. No problems after if you do it properly. You cant pull em apart once glued.  Recently noticed windscreen wipers were fraying at ends on my old hatchback so superglued them too and went through MOT OK.

Anything wil have a degree of measurable flexibility.  Here is more information on glue testing

Instron are the leading company in materials testing and all major manufacturing companies working to contractually required quality standards will have Instron testing machines at their premises which are annually calibrated by Instron.  Small companies have to use materials with traceble qualification if they are supplying a large company.  Major companies will randomly test bought in components to destruction.  I have used Instron equipment which can be set up for a range of tests to do just this.  It brings home to you the fact that if you buy cheap tyres or other safety critical pattern parts the materials and processes used in their manufacture may not meet that specified for the OEM parts.  High value counterfeit parts are known to be slipped into the supply chain for cars and aircraft which could fail under load.  They also have deceptively realistic packaging and documentation.  So be on your guard at all times.  Car servicing is one area where quality standards are abysmal and efforts are ongoing to tighten things up.
