Hi guys, I'm hew here

Hi all,

I've just joined up as I'm looking for a MK1 MX5 as a daily car for a while which will then become a project. I currently have a mini which was my daily until I turned it into a rather full on project so with the need for a daily car and always loving the look of MK1 MX5's the times come to buy one. I'm an active member of the mini community which has taught me some of the best cars are ones for sale by members.

I'm not looking to spend too much as I want to keep as much money as possible for the mini, combined with the fact the MX5 will be stripped after circa 1 years of use, however plans could change if I find the right one!

I'd be grateful if you could point me in the right direction of any cars for sale on here and what to look for/a buying guide. I'm based in west midlands so the closer the better but don’t mind traveling for the right car.

Cheers, Mike.

    Hi Mike, and welcome!

Not sure about Mk1's, but I've just spent a couple of months looking at early Mk2's and compared to some of the "hobby cars" I've owned they seem to have remarkably few weak spots. The sills just forward of the rear arches seem to be the prime rust spot.

As a guide I ended up spending £1900 on a '98 1.8 with 70k and a fsh. Get in before the good weather arrives would be my advice, especially as cars stood outside in weather like today's will give a good indication of how watertight (or otherwise!) they are - I bought mine a week after 8 inches of snow had fallen and melted on it!

You might want to try posting a similar request for info on the Mk1 specific forum elsewhere on this site.

    Good luck with your search!

    Hi Mike,

I'm new here too! If you're still looking for a Mk 1, I'm selling mine because I need to get a family sized car now. Very sad to see it go! You can view it here:

It's had a recent major cam belt service, including a new thermostat housing and thermostat (which, according to the MX5 specialist who did the work, very commonly rust through), and it's had the rear sills welded.

    Thanks,

    Paul :)
