Bubbling paint on bonnet (hood)

There are numerous posts about paint "bubbling" but the ones that I have read refer to the problem ocurring at the edges of the bonnet.

I have some tiny,  i.e. 2mm stone chips that have threads appearing under the paint that direct away from the actual stone damage.

So far my solution has been to use a glass fibre pen to scrape away all paint layers to reveal the tiny corrosion point on the aluminium.  I then carry on gently scraping along the track of the thread (bubble?) until I'm happy that I have eliminated the corrosion area.

The above process is heart breaking as the rest of the bonnet is perfect.

Of course the resulting repair process is equally disheartening because of the Galaxy Grey mica paint variation.   I immediately fill with grey primer.  Then use 2500 grit SC paper to flatten then use Mazda paint stick brush.   Using paint leveller after this is a lottery result.   Leaving base coat without clear coat too long also risks metalic particle oxidation.

Just looking fo sympathy!!!!

Feel for ya...I have this problem also on the leadng edge of the bonnet in several places - albeit quite small; but yes, they seem to snake out usut as you describe.

I do also have one small bleb half way up the bonnet.

I have not tackled mine yet...but it keeps nagging at me to do the job every time I look. It's not as easy to tackle oxidised aluminium as it is rust....

I have the winning blue paint...so ahve the same matching issue as you mate...

Really annoying it is too as the rest of the car is perfect....

    you aint seen me, right!

I think that I should be using etching primer for the aluminium instead of regular primer.   However I have only seen this in large aerosol cans.

Yesterday I had a look around the car for more "bubbles".   Strangely the only other ones were underneath the boot lid on one of the steel (?) panel strengthening strips.

Like your car's colour and it certainly should be safer than my stealth grey.   That said I'm also certain that because one of my other transport (0-60mph 4.7seconds) has the same colour,   "grey has to be faster" :)
