After an incredibly good reliability record for the first few months of 2011 display season XH558 had a couple of setbacks recently.
One was a fuel leak which took 3 weeks to complete investigation, repair, replacement and testing. Unfortunately this was over the busiest weekend of the season so missed 2 days of displays at Bournemouth, and displays at Oxford, Shoreham and Dawlish.
When she was declared serviceable, 26 August, I was due to be at Dunsfold 'Wings & Wheels' in the Vulcan Village 27 (set up day) and two days of display Sunday and Monday bank holiday. She took off to come to Dunsfold but developed a hydraulic leak. It's been repaired with the ground crew working through the night and is now serviceable.
SO - subject to weather and nothing else becoming unserviceable, she should be appearing at Cosby and Portrush (Northern Ireland) this weekend.
Full story can be read at 'Barry's Blog'. I suggest this as it give a very good description of the problems and how they were rectified. Barry is AEO (Air Electronics Officer) aircrew on XH558 and writes a good blog.
If you want to join the club to support XH558 and get additional access to information and the very active forum you can do so HERE There's an on-line form further down the page.
Edit note - to bold the sentence about Cosby and Portrush
