Gear Selection

Stopped at traffic lights, then couldn't get into first. Managed to drive home but gear selection difficult.

However this morning everything seems OK.

Anybody have a clue what's happening?

Check the clutch fliud maybe you are loosing it 1st place to look is the slave cylinder pull the rubber boot back and see if the fluid drips out if so you will need a new slave cylinder, 2nd could be the master cylinder put your hand up under the clutch pedal it may be wet /damp the fluid may be weeping out.

Just thought it maybe the gear lever gaiters breaking up and jamming the gear lever may be worth a look

I would say 99.9% certain that the clutch hydraulic system is sucking in air, the reason the clutch worked next day is because the air "rose to the surface" back to the master cylinder if that makes sense.

I agree with the above!  Almost all, '.... I can't get it into gear' problems are due to the clutch draging (ie not disengaging completely when you push the pedal).

I had a BSA 650 A10  which had a horrible draging clutch.... soon learnt to scoot it up to 1 mph then it dropped into first a treat!

It was a leaking slave cylinder. Local garage  fixed it for £109.92
