Remove locking wheel nut - without key?

A friend of mine has a Mazda with the same type locking wheel nuts as the NC.

On trying to remove one of the nuts recently the key disintegrated. He is now not able to remove the locking nuts.

The local dealer has been unhelpful and they doubt that they can fix it anyway.

Does anyone know of a method to remove the locking wheel nut without the key?

Thanks

You can get these tools for removing locking nuts

Is the nut damaged or just the key?  If the nut is intact he (Your "friend") may be able to find someone with the same key.  I don't think there can be too many combinations, both my NC and my wifes 6 have the same pattern and the cars are different ages and models from different dealers.

I know most breakdown services carry a tool to get a locked nut off, if you are in AA etc they will do it.

Good luck with that one, filing the nut square while on the car is going to be one heck of a job and fit-alls are useless on anything but the most positive locations (which you'll be lucky to get with your filed up nut on the car) and this nut is likely to be tight which is what messed up the tool in the first place.

Does he have a code for the key, perhaps with the original packaging that the locking wheel nuts came in - should be able to get a replacement.

I had same problem a year or two back, I took it to mx5 city near Doncaster they drilled the stud out of the nut and then fitted a new stud, from memory it cost less that £20 all in including fitting the new stud.

Thanks for the replies. My "friend" has a Mazda 6 - so no it is not me! - no honest it really isn't - no really!

I think that the tight socket may be a way forward. The eBay style "removers" have been tried without success.

I had a friend who this happened to a few years ago. I drilled into the stud and used a stud extractor to take it out.  Best to go to a garage as it is not that simple and yoo need the tools to do it first.
