2005 Icon Performance Figures

I've been trying to look for the specific performance figures for the 2005 Icon but can't seem to find any. Every website I go to gives the same figures as the standard spec 1.8 MK2 but the Icon has a VVT engine (increased torque and lower MPG) so surely it won't be the exact same figures as the standard or will it? I'm confused, does anyone with more car knowledge than me care to shed some light on it?

    Hi there,

Think thse are what you are looking for. Performance figures for your 1.8 2005 icon.

    Engine displacement: 1839cc

    Max power: 146bhp @ 7000rpm

    Max torque: 124lb ft @ 5000rpm

    Max speed: 127mph

    0-60mph: 8.5 sec

    Average fuel consumption: 32.5mpg

    Hope this answers your question.

These are the figures I keep seeing on the internet but I think they're just copied over from the standard 1.8 car rather than being specific for the Icon. I know for definite that the fuel economy for example averages 29mpg as it says this in the original brochure

    Hi there,

You keep seeing those figures as they are for the 1.8 vvt engine that your icon has, i know this as mine is a 1.8 vvt engined one as well and i also used to work at a Mazda dealership. The icon is a limited edition with a different spec level and only available in certain colours i think, but the engine is the same 1.8 vvt used in 2001 - 2005 model mx5's. Unless you have an import but being an icon i know it's a uk car.

So you're saying that all 01-05 MX5s are VVT? I'm confused. The brochure says that the Icon engine was different BECAUSE it was VVT which is why it lost a couple of MPG compared to the standard MX5 1.8 engine.

Correct every mx5 1.8 from 2001-2005 uses the vvt engine, in other words every mk2.5 1.8. I have a 2003  model and that has a vvt engine. Smile

That's correct.  All NB2 1.8s have S-VT variable valve timing.  The only difference with the Icon is colour and trim.
