Moisture affecting door speaker?

Hi guys,

I had a problem previously when my car was in warranty, whereby the passenger door speaker (the woofer part) sounded all fuzzy and distorted.  I got my dealer to look at it, and they supposedly fixed it.

This problem has risen again, now that my car is no longer in warranty, and I've noticed that it only happens on wet days, leading me to believe that it's related to moisture.

I took the door card off recently and applied some Vaseline to the speaker contacts to see if that would help, but it hasn't made any difference.

Any ideas what's at fault and what I can do to fix it?  It's very boring sitting in rush hour traffic with no stereo, and the speaker works fine when its dry, so I don't want to blow the speaker by using it when it's fuzzy.

FYI, the car is an '06 NC with the Bose 7 speaker system.

Gah, it did it again this morning - plus there was mega traffic, so I sat mostly stationary for over an hour with no music.  Bah humbug.

Anybody got any ideas, or had the same issue?

    Hi Mazrus,

I had the exact same problem with my speakers where they would almost rattle when it was either cold or damp and this went away when the weather warmed up. If you are getting this you will probably need to get your speakers replaced. Luckily I had mine replaced under warranty. If you do have to replace them maybe its worth considering upgrading to the Clearwater Speakers which are supposed to be far superior.

Great, thanks for your help!  Shame about the speakers though.  Doesn't seem like the speaker is blown as such, because it works fine when the weather is dry.  Also, it's definitely not blown from my usage, as I never crank it anywhere near full volume.

Rather annoying really, but I doubt that the dealer really fixed my speaker when they said they did.  Either that, or more water is getting into that door than should be, which is lunching all the speakers.  Odd that the one in my drivers door doesn't appear to have the same problem.
