My mistake could be your gain! MX5 plate for a JP.

Yesterday I was playing around looking for a personal registration number for the wife's car (her birthday in a few days time).

Anyhow; I came across the perfect number for myself, so being the impulsive twat that I am I bought it; only to discover a few hours later, when talking to a friend, that I could not use it on my beloved MK2.

Restrictions being that you can make your car appear as old as you like but cannot make it appear newer than it is (good old GB snobbery).

Anyhow; DVLA were really good and canceled the purchase; no problems there!

So what was it?

My intials are IJP; the plate was:-                        MX5 1JP X

(for 250 pounds it is still available from the DVLA private numbers site; which includes the 80 pound transfer fee ..... absolute bargain for any ex Judges, Lawyers or person with great initials).

I cannot follow the logic in that. How can it make your car appear younger?

We call our mob out here the RTA (Roads and Traffic Authority). Out here you cannot purchase only lease. They make a mint out of it.

It's a 51 plate, so the car would have to be registered in second half of 2001 at the earliest.

I would like to know how you get the spacing like that though? Is that actually legal and do you have to get the plate done up specially for that spacing?

There are plenty of online places that will space however you want.

I have my day to day plates and then a spare set for the MOT!

I got stopped three times by the police with mine, had change plates for the mot, changed cars three times and spent an age at the DVLA each time swapping the plates, tax discs and mot's for each of the two vwehicles in the end just got rid it was more hassle than it was worth.
