Power Steering Reservoir Cap ... vanished :(

Content is edited

Hi Guys,

Its been a while since I posted on here and me and the 5 have been getting along great! Unfortunately I haven't been spending a lot of time behind the wheel of this car lately but I intend to rectify that this summer :)

Yesterday I took the opportunity to drive the mx-5 around a bit and was noticing a strange "groaning" noise when the car was in reverse. Not knowing where to start, I decided to pop open the bonnet and found this (probably hasn't got anything to do with the noise I heard, but anyway ...).

As you can see, the reservoir cap seems to be missing:

And this is a close-up of the black thing i found inside. I have no idea what this is supposed to be so if you guys could be as helpful as ever and maybe tell me what its supposed to be, I would appreciate it a lot :)

Sorry about the missing cap but you're supposed have the black thingy.

I've just removed my reservoir cap and there's the black thingy. I guess it's a seal for the cap to tighten against.

Thanks for confirming the necessary presence of that black "thing".

Do you guys know of any online places where I might be able to order some sort of cap for the reservoir as I don't think the local dealer will have the part in stock (never does).

You could suggest the Admiral gets one of these and sells you his spare Smiley two

I was just about to get those rather than go through the hassle of ordering ... right up until I re-read the product description and found out that they are just chrome covers that stick to the original OEM cap. Darn.
