Faulty Brake Lights - Help please

Content is edited

I have a 1990 mx-5 and the brake lights have stopped working, i've checked the bulbs and fuses and they are ok, ive noticed the handbrake is not as firm as its used to be (as well as noticing the horn doesn't work), any ideas as to what the problem could be?

I may be mistaken unless the brake line has a pressure switch which i doubt on a 5, the problem will be the switch/plunger on the actual brake pedal, if you bob your head under the dash you should find a plunger type swich on the brake pedal, when the pedal is depressed the plunger should come out and close circuit, to test remove both wires and touch them together, this will prove or disprove the switch. assuming all fuses are intact.
