Messing about with time

All this fuss and nonsense with adjusting your clocks and watches seems crazy to me.  I've never understood why we persist with it.  Are there any political parties that want to abolish it in their manifesto?  Is it just me being a whinging old git or does anyone else think it's complete madness?

If I find the git who damaged Mrs YK's Niseko, I'll have their eyes sucked out by a goat and replace them with hot toffee apples.

    Hey YK
    I find it insane, too.
Just leave it on BST all year 'round.
I did hear say that it's a pain not being on GMT for Scotland but i don't truly know.

I know it'd be kind of sad to lose the term Greenwich Mean Time as it's what the rest of the world works off
but it really is just a name now and we are no longer the british empire and haven't been in a lonng time.
    We're now the 51st state

Well, up here, if we stayed on GMT, it would be daylight at 3am in mid summer which seems a bit of a waste.  If we stayed on BST, it would be dark at 3pm in mid winter which would be unbearable.  The main reason for changing is to keep kids safe on the way to and from school.  They tried staying on BST as an experiment in the late '60s and there were a spate of accidents.

I don't mind the changing of the clocks - it adds to the psychology of leaving winter behind and also adds a little frisson of excitement - will my timed recording of the Australian GP be an hour late, an hour early or just right?

I don't like technology that adjusts automatically because I can never remember which bits of kit do and which don't.  Much confusion.

If they want to change clocks in Scotland then let them do it, but leave our clocks alone please. America has neighbouring states with different times, so why not the UK too? I do prefer having lighter evenings.

I'm with Och Aye on this. I quite like the idea of marking the end of Winter, and launching into Spring. Especially after the long hard Winter we've had this time. It is SO nice to have some daylight left when work finishes! It feels like there is a lot more time to play with in the evening and for those travelling alone [not just the kids] it does make you feel less vulnerable.

I do like coming home and putting in my track suit bottoms and staying cosy indoors on Winter evenings.. but by the end of March I've had enough of it!

Ah yes- the ritual Changing of the Clocks!

The occasion when some deluded people and MPs seem to think that the sun suddenly starts to rise later and set later, and thus in some mysterious and confusing way manages to shine for a greater number of hours each day and thereby magically create more hours of daylight.

    What a load of nonsense.

This link puts a sensible perspective on it:

Would you need to say Scottish Mean Time, most know the Scottish are the most generous folk around?

I find it strange that we can lower the suspension, get the geo done, polish and clean for hours on end but cannot see the reasoning behind pressing a button to make the day brighter.

    shame.
