Sub-woofer

Hi Audio specialists, I am thinking of fitting a small Kenwood sub-woofer (150 watt) into the boot against the firewall. Question is will this be powerful enough to be heard from inside the cabin? I am not looking for ghetto blasting performance, just a bit more bass to the existing system. If I added a couple of dummy speaker baffles to the side tunnels on the rear shelf, do you think it would it improve the route the sound travels though the car? Your thoughts please.

I don't think you'd get much from 150 watt, maybe if you ported it through to behind the drivers seat but I'm not sure if the quality of the bass would be very good

I will do some testing before I make a decision, and post the results.

Not keen on this new format

You can go for the Pioneer active 8" sub: http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/25/131/201/TS-WX22A/index.html and mount it under the glove box. It will not shake your head of, but give you better bass in your system

I have been told that a sub would be near useless in the boot so I am going for http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/25/131/201/TS-WX110A/index.html and install in behind the seat. please let me know your thought splus how you got on. Cheers Dave

Got to say I had no idea that these slimline subwoofers existed. Gonna have a word with my local car audio place in the next week or so. I'm not expecting miracles from them but a boost to the standard mk3.5 system without losing my whole boot would be very welcome.

Just to update you, I have had the slimline sub installed and whilst it is not a big old sub it is actually suprisingly acceptable in quality. It has transformed my sound in the car and I still havent upgraded the door speakers yet! (which i will do soon). I cant say whether a boot sub would have been better, ive had mixed opinions but i do not regret my decision and would recomend it if you are considering it. And i get to keep my (small) boot space too!

fyi, I had it installed in between the seats above the arm rest which I decided to do once i realised it could fit (just about). I have lost the keyhole to the arm rest as a result but I did not use that anyway. I am planning to get some speaker cover cloth to disguise it and get the thieves away.

Let me know how you get on...
