Last week the 900,000th Mazda MX-5 rolled off the production line in Hiroshima heading for its new owner in Germany.
The MX-5 was already recognised by Guinness World Records as the “best-selling two-seat sports car” in 2000 when production reached 531,890 units. The record was updated in 2005 and 2007 to 700,000 and 800,000 cars respectably. With a new record application in the post, it’s only question of time before the recent milestone is officially confirmed.

According to Nobuhiro Yamamoto, MX-5 Program Manager, the success of the Mazda MX-5 is all down to the fans:
"Its enduring success is due to the strong support it enjoys from fans around the world, and I will strive to keep the MX-5's spirit alive while evolving it into a car that will be loved by even more people."
Judging by how they’ve done so far, we don’t doubt that they will and we hope to see the millionth happy MX-5 owner in the near future.
